Any one here using the Steelfiber or Recoils? I currently have KBS C Tapers and have had some elbow issues in the past few seasons. Once again it is bugging me. I started doing some research and I am thinking graphite maybe the way to go. I am a bit torn between the steelfiber and Recoil, I don't think I can go wrong with either. MY big issue right now so there is no way for me to test the steelfiber shaft.

So anyone using either, thoughts?

A quick Google search, and some answers from other golf websites, these comments:

Have experience with Recoil and Steelfiber. They both give the benefits of graphite shafts. I felt the Recoil was smoother, while the Steelfiber was more harsh. Steelfiber also launched lower with same weight and flex S vs F4, but both were higher than a comparable steel shaft.

I have hit all three manufacturer's shafts. My 7 iron distance is 160 to 165 yards and I have a slow/moderate tempo shaft load, while retaining my wrist angle deep into my downswing.

All shafts were FLOed with the FLO line towards the target. The Aerotechs and the Recoils were tested on a Trackman with Bridgestone BB330s balls. Plus I have played Aerotech shafts from 2007 to early 2013.

Aerotech 110CW R flex; a firm feel throughout the shaft. I felt very little shaft flex/load. No accuracy issues and a muted or dull shaft feel.
Aerotech Players Spec R Flex: A little more tip flex feel and shaft loaded more than the 110CWs. No accuracy issues and about 3 yards longer than the 110CWs. Slightly worse dispersion than the 110CWs.

Recoil 110 Prototype F4 flex: I could feel the shaft load (in a good way) more than either of the two Aerotech shafts. The shaft had a more lively feel where as both Aerotechs felt dull/muted. This Recoil F4 110 shaft was 5 yards longer than the AeroTech 110Cws and two yards longer than the Aerotech Player's spec shaft. The 110 F4 was the most accurate of all the shafts. Also, I tried the Recoils in the following weights and flexes : 95, 110, and 125 weights in F3, F4, and F5 flexes. The Recoil 95 F4 and F5 were about 1 to 2 yards longer, but the accuracy was not as good as the Recoil 110 F4. This was a two hour session. I have been playing the Recoils since the spring of 2013. I do have a 125 F4 eight iron shaft cut to length in my L wedge.

Aldila RIPs 90 gram S flex: I am demoing these now and comparing them against the Recoils 110 F4s. My initial impression is the RIPS have a lower torque rating and it definitely feels that way. The shaft just feels firmer/ stiffer/crisper and than the Recoils and the shaft does not seem time load and unload to my swing tempo. In fact, the RIPS feel crisper (not firmer) than the Aerotech 110CWs. Accuracy is worse with the RIPS than the Recoil F4 110s, but I believe this is due to the lighter shaft weight as the same thing happened with the Recoil 95 gram shafts. The Recoils F4 110 are 2-3 yards longer than the RIPs too.

So what is the best shaft- it depends on what feel that you like, the shaft weight and flex that times with your shaft loading profile. That aside, I have been playing graphite in my irons for 20 years and I have played/tried all of the above plus Graffaloy LBP, Graphite Design GAT 105 R and S, Excel, Innovative, Fujikura, Matrix, plus some others that I can't remember right now.

My personal favorite is the Recoils. The Recoils claims to have a "recoil" shaft recovery and while I can't quantify or measure if the shaft actually does this, it definitely has a feel that is unlike all of the other graphite shaft I have tried.

Thanks tmvds. Quick question, are you for certain that your elbow problems are from the shafts?

Good info thanks.

The elbow issues have been lingering, I don't think the shafts are to blame, however I don't think they help either.

I have been doing a lot of research and it seems there are quite a few people out there who have c tapers and elbow problems though.

Well I ordered the recoil proto 110 f4 today. Swung them and c tapers today on trackman and the numbers were similar but a tad better for the recoil, carry and spin. Also felt less harsh to swing. Talked with my uncle and cousin who are pros and the fitter also a pro and we think the will be a really go for for me and help me elbow. Will let everyone know once I get them switched out.

Cool, interesting that your findings match up with the guy I quoted from what I found on another website. There must be something to that shaft. Looking forward to hearing about your experience once you get them in play, from distance/accuracy as well as the elbow tendonitis.
